Welcome to the CHANGE lab!

Directed by Dr. Idia Thurston in the Clinical Psychology Program at The University of Memphis.

The CHANGE lab aims to decrease HIV and Obesity related health disparities and increase global empowerment among adolescents, young adults, and their families

We are interested in exploring risk and protective factors that contribute to HIV and Obesity disparities. We aim to develop culturally-adapted interventions to promote healthier lifestyles, support medication adherence, increase safer sexual practices, and decrease risk behaviors in adolescents and young adults (AYA)

Our approach is guided by Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) with the goals of reaching and serving diverse populations who have been traditionally underrepresented in research and treatment, including racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants, sexual minorities, and those with limited access to resources and mental health services

We are conducting projects at The University of Memphis, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, and in our local Memphis community. We also have ongoing collaborative projects with researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johanessburg, South Africa
